Guide to Skip Hire

When ordering your skip there are some key things to consider, follow our guide to help you decide on the best skip for you.

Waste type

For lightweight waste such as paper, plastic bags etc a covered skip may be best for you.

Soil and brick is not permitted in skips above 8 yards however we also provide a Grab Wagon service to remove up to 16 tons at a time if you can heap it loose by the roadside.

Hazardous waste such as asbestos, aerosols etc require us to use additional safety precautions so require prior notice to us and in some cases additional cost.

Waste Amount

For sites creating large quantities of waste we like to work with our customers to find ways to reduce waste and save our customers money. Sometimes by providing several skips for segregated waste we can reduce sorting times and save you money.

Skips are available as: 4 Yard, 6 Yard, 8 Yard, 10 Yard, 12 Yard, 16 Yard, this is in relation to their size in cubic yards though as previously mentioned 8 yard is the largest suitable for soil and rubble due to weight constraints. Only level loads can be collected so we recommend going up a size if you are unsure that you can fit it in. We cannot take overloaded skips!

For sites with rubble and soil we offer a self loading grab wagon capable of carrying up to 16 tons in each trip, with this we can also supply aggregates to site for you to reduce your haulage costs.

Do I need a permit?

If your skip must be placed on the public highway then a permit will be required but don’t stress just let us know and we can sort all that out for you at our end for £50 including VAT.

Why do skip prices vary?

Skip prices are based on the cost of recycling the waste and the transport cost. We aim to be as competitive and fair with our pricing as possible however as we travel further we have to pass along those costs.

Will there be extra charges?

Not unless there is any of the following wastes found in the skips on collection, however if you tell us about these on booking your skip we are upfront about the extra costs and the reasons why.

Fridges & Freezers – Contain gases that require specialist disposal. (£20 for a small one and £30 for a large)

Paint, Solvents & Fuel – These are classed as hazardous waste. (£3 per can)

Tyres – Difficult to process and not accepted in general waste. (call or email to discuss)

Asbestos – Extremely hazardous and must be removed by licensed professionals. (Call or email to discuss)

Plasterboard – Can’t be mixed with other waste due to sulphate content. (£120 per ton)

Mattresses – Require special handling and recycling due to bulky components. (single £15, double £20)

Can I claim back the VAT?

Yes, we are VAT registered and our VAT number is 483 9030 76.
